Sigma Kappa's national philanthropic initiatives are close to the heart of our chapter. Sigma Kappa is one of the nation's leading contributors to the Alzheimer's Association in support of the study of gerontology and Alzheimer's disease research, prevention, and treatment - in 2013 alone, Sigma Kappa raised over $1 million for the Alzheimer's Association! Within the last three decades, Sigma Kappa has donated over $2 million in research grants in an effort to support scientists in their search for a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Many of our sisters, their families, and our friends have been affected by Alzheimer's disease - through our philanthropic efforts & service to the community we have a chance to fight back and to give back to those whose lives have been touched by the disease. Locally, our chapter seeks to: raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association through campus events such as our biannual Cupcake Bar and Kick in the Grass soccer tournament; spread awareness for Alzheimer's disease and prevention through our Ultra Violet Campaign; and, help those who have been touched by the disease through our community service projects in partnership with Twin Lakes & Blakey Hall retirement communities and our local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Through our philanthropic initiatives, we have the chance to be a part of something that is bigger than us and our chapter. We have the opportunity to make a real difference. There is nothing better than the feeling of giving back - except maybe the feeling of giving back surrounded by your sisters! |
